An animal of a specific species is a living creature that belongs within a certain family of several species, narrowing down to (example): a tiger is not within the same species as a lion, because they do not have the same physical features or other characteristics. Humans are non-direct descendants from chimpanzees, but we are related by our very similar characteristics. Other than this, chimps and humans are not of the same species. We evolved over time differently, earlier, and more productively in order to become what we are today.
