There are a lot of different options when it comes to housing a pet rabbit! The right sort for you depends on the details of your home and lifestyle. You should spend some time planning before you make your choice.

The first rule is to keep your rabbit safe. There are lots of dangers for rabbits indoors and outdoors!

You need to keep your bunny in some kind of enclosure, like a large hutch, a big cage or "condo" (cage with upper levels), a dog crate or exercise pen, a room or gated-off area in your home, or an outbuilding (barn, garage).

The best place to keep a rabbit is:

• Never too hot (over 78F/25C) and never too cold(under 55F/13C)
• Dry, clean, with good airflow and natural light (with access to the shade at all times)
• Big enough -- after all the supplies, furnishings, toys, etc. a bunny should have plenty of room to stand up to full height without touching the ceiling, stretch out to full length without touching the walls, and hop a good few paces at least; 3 by 4 feet is an okay minimum
• Calm and peaceful (free from loud noises, cooking fumes, and chaos) but also near the family action (rabbits are social animals, so don't hide them away)
• Where there's easy access to a bigger, bunny-proofed runor room where the bunny can be let out to play, exercise, and socialise every day
• Where the bunny won't disturb sleeping humans at dawn -- bunnies wake up early (they're crepuscular), and they can make a ruckus!

I feel farm rabbits or home bred tend to be the healthiest. Pet stores don't tend to care for their animals properly.
