I assume you meant Labrador Retriever or Golden Retriever? Either will work. Labradors are physically better suited for waterfowl because of the double coats. Goldens are better suited for upland birds.
I personally find Labradors to be great all round. They are very excited to go get a bird for you, and will happily bring it back to you, because it makes YOU happy. A Labrador's coat is much easier to take care of than the long coat of a Golden. Golden Retrievers are also prone to cancer, Labradors aren't as much.
Also, bare in mind that Chocolate and Black labs completely camo into a woodland background, so if you decide to get either of those colors they definitely need an orange vest. I recommend a vest regardless, but black and chocolate REALLY need one.
