They are raised to be that way. Fighting pit bulls involves chaining young dogs with the heaviest chains possible to make them strong and ''harden'' them. Then their ears are cropped (cut off) to make them look tougher and to stop the ears from being torn off. After that, a stray dog is caught, muzzled and tied up for use as a ''bait dog'' which the young Pit Bull is forced to attack. Then the owners organise secret fights in which the Pit Bulls are FORCED to fight each other in a pit. Onlookers bet on which dog will win and which dog will lose or be killed. The loser of the fight (if it is still alive) is then taken out back and killed or left to die. Any breed can be used for fighting - Pit Bulls were the unfortunate breed favoured for this sport because of their strength and agility.
