Simple reason is to kill more whalers within a year. However, in order t do this, factory ships were need to be produced as factory ships process and stores whale meat. Without a factory ship, a dead whale would last 12 hours before starting to decompose therefore making it uneditable.
The people who thought of this were the Norwegians and the British. Reason for longer trips like to Antarctica was to get as much oil they can as whale oil was used in the manufacturing industry unlike today.
1500 B.C. Whaling has been going on for centuries. They are mostly killed for food, their blubber, and their insides which are used for most cosmetic products.

People first started whaling around 3000 BC. It sure was a Long long time ago!
Modern whaling in South Georgia began in 1904, the South Shetland Islands in 1906, in the South Orkneys in 1912, and in the Ross Sea in 1923.
They used to up until the 60's (and by all accounts they decimated a large chunk of the population and orcas are noW quite rare around Japan. Just a hundred or so remain) Japan doesn't currently hunt orca but they could start again If they wanted as the hunting of small whales is not monitored by the International Whaling Commission (IWC).
Whaling should'nt be allowed again, as it could cause a slowly growing population of great species, into an endangered species. Whaling still exists illegally in some countries, and whale parts are in several cosmetic's including lip-stick! Whaling is a vicious, dangerous so called "sport" or "hobby", but would you call being chased by murderer's a hobby? I dont think so.
Whaling has been an activity for thousands of years, archealogical discoveries in South Korea suggest evidence of whaling occuring as early as 6000 BC. Commercial whaling is widely though to have begun in the late 1800s and early 1900s with the invention of various whaling devices such as the flexible harpoon and steam winches.
it depends from where you start and what your method of transport is. if you start from one mile away it will not take as long as if you start from seventy four miles away. if you are going to walk it will take you longer than if you hire a helicopter.
all electrically powered items such as head lights etc fade, longer or non start ups
