Why do dogs urinate on humans?

It's a myth. Dogs (especially males) will urinate on fire hydrants, poles, doorways (anywhere another male has urinated) because dogs need to mark their territory and one dog letting another know where they have been.

Some dogs usually pee on stuff while going on a walk to mark their territory.

They pee anywhere other dogs have peed. For example a fire hydrant.

It could have been dog chose the fire hydrant to start marking that territory for it has water inside.

Urination in the dog world is a sign of dominance or possession. When a dog lifts its leg on something, it's saying to the other dogs that sniff it, "This is mine." By lifting his leg on a human, a dog is assuming a dominant possessive role toward that person and more than likely needs some serious training.

Cats rub against fire hydrants, trees, and so on, to leave their scent in order to mark their territory, and to pass on messages... if a female cat is "available" and wants male cats to know, she leaves her scent for the other cats to know. If the cat is male, than he'll just spray the hydrant, and leave his smell.

They do it to their owners as well, not spray you, but rub up against you to leave their scent, to let other cats know that he is your cat, and he "owns" you... :)

When cats sharpen their claws on a tree or post (or your lounge chair) they're not just making sure their claws are ready for hunting or defense; they're also leaving their scent (from glands in their paws) as a territorial marker.

Cats use anywhere handy to rub against or sharpen their claws, but usually have some special places which become very much 'theirs', so you might find just one tree in your garden which is permanently marked from cat-scratching.

Dogs mark territory and leave messages in the same way by lifting their legs to spray areas they want to mark; they too have their own favorite places they just have to mark every time they pass by.

Fortunately, dogs don't need to mark their owners, since just rubbing against things to mark them isn't a canine trait - they have to spray, or at least, dampen.
