Why is your dog all of a sudden afraid to ride in the car?

It's not the breed of dog that is afraid of car rides, it's your pet! The best thing to do is put your dog on a leash and put it in the car. Then drive to a safe park ordogie area and play ball or go for a walk with the dog (making it fun time for them.) Do this for 2 weeks and your dog will associate car rides with fun. I've trained my two dogs this way.

Yes, we have a four month old brown puppy, male. We use a crate to place him in which we've done since age 2 months. He loves to go bye, bye in the car and the crate provide a safe place him to ride. Sometimes I do let him out to sit in my lap (hubby drives) he is well behaved, looks out the window. We always take a rawhide ear for him to chew, food, puppy puddle pad, water and a fold up dish from pet store which we place in a lunch bag just for him. Remember pets are like our children and they need us to be prepared for them. Practice taking your dog in the car, start with short trips, soon he will love it.

They are often scared of cars because they get worked up about moving without walking, with lots of other moving vehicles coming past. They may also be anxious about crossing the road. This is due to the fact of the loud noises and big moving things in front of them!

Your dog might associate going in the car as going to the vet because it remembers going in the car then having to go to the vet, so now every time it gets in the car it thinks it is going to the vet.
