In parts of Africa. Such meat is referred to as "bush meat".

Eating bush meat is quite dangerous, as many diseases can pass from monkees to humans. It is thought that AIDS may have emerged first in monkees, then passed to humans who had contact with those monkees.

Because like all animals, monkeys are meat. Meat is an excellent source of nutrients - particularly protein.
