This is a misnomer. All sexes of horses can pull wagons. The most level headed of the sexes is the gelding.

Because a female of any species tend to have more energy than their male counterparts. Males have good strength but the endurance is more important. Males like horses or oxen were often used for heavy but less enduring work.

Same is the case in humans. HA! HA!
