they will if you don't take the male gerbil out of the cage after around less than a two weeks because if they mate after the female gerbil has her pups than they will mate again and she will not take care of the first litter of pups.

How often do gerbils have babys?

Gerbils can have a litter about every 5 weeks. Gerbils mate right after the birth of a litter, and the mother can prolong the pregnancy to up to 40 days if she is nursing. A gerbil will produce about 4-5 pups on average per litter, but can have up to 12! With about 10 litters per year with no break, that means about 50 gerbil pups a year! They are rather prolific breeders. :]

How do gerbils mate?

It's really quite self explainatory. Get younger gerbils, a male and a female. Make sure they aren't from the same litter, if they are the babies could have health problems. If they are younger, introducing them to one another should be a peice of cake, if not use the slipt-cage method. They should mate, and about 21 days later, you will have a litter of gerbils. =)

What months do gerbils mate in?

To be honest, if you just buy 2 gerbils, boy and girl, then it is unpredictable to know when they mate. They could mate anytime. :D

When do gerbils breed?

They can breed at as early as 6 weeks and for females until 2 years, males breed all their lives. They will mate after every litter unless their is separation, separation is not suggested though. A pair will mate in the evening 4 pm to midnight about and their ritual could last a few hours.

I only wanted to have one litter of gerbils but ive been reading that the father needs to help care for them when should you take the father out of the cage?

The father can help care for them, as it relieves a lot of stress from the mom. However, if you only want one litter, you will need to separate them before the birth. Gerbils mate right after birth, and this is the female's most fertile time. The best way to have minimal litters is to have one litter that mom can raise, and then before the next litter comes, remove father and leave on of the older daughters in the tank with her. The daughter will help mom raise the litter. Place a son in dad's tank so that he does not get lonely.
