Yes they do.
Used to live in Central Europe and this was a major problem not only in the winter. They are attracted by the heat from the warm engine, crawl under the car and into the engine compartment. They then start chewing on anything rubbery (hoses, wires, cables etc.). Many people find out in the morning that their cars either do not start because of some electrical problem or leak fluid.
Insurance companies offer special "Marten" policies. There are also devices or sprays to help deter them but none of them are really that effective.
I never saw the animal while living there but witnessed the damaged caused a couple of times. Coolant rubber hoses are their most favorite to chew on!
