It really depnds on what you're serving for dessert . On the table , it can be the last spoon on the outside left , or at the top of the dinner plate . Anything like a compote or ice cream will be served in a compote or parfait dish wth a saucer underneath and the spoon may be on the serving plate. This is not a hard and fast rule , and may be safely bent.

In England the spoon would be laid on the right.

Where does the dessert fork go on a table setting?

A dessert fork or spoon should be laid horizontally above the dinner place. If both a dessert spoon and dessert fork are present, the fork should be closer to the plate. The fork should have its tines to the right, and the spoon should have its bowl to the left. It is also acceptable for the dessert fork or spoon to be brought in with the dessert.
