When a company targets someone, they are targeting a specific person, consumer, gender, or age group to sell their products. An example of this is by the store ToysRUs. Their target group is children. They will sell and advertise in such a way to get kids "excited" to come to their store to buy things with their parents. Another example would be a beer company, such as Miller or Coors beer. They will advertise during major sporting events such as the Super Bowl and NCAA Tournament, because people watching the game at that time are most likely people that will buy such products.
