The "Old Testament" did not need to be "discovered" because it was never lost, it's been passed down by the Jewish people for thousands of years. Various "books" were collected and kept and this eventually formed the Hebrew/Jewish Bible, or "Tanakh". Similarly the "New Testament" was never lost nor found, but is a collection of later writings that have also been passed down.

Various additional copies have been found over time, the most notable being the "Dead Sea Scrolls" found in the 1940s. This included the Tanakh/Old Testament as well as other writings.
