Because of the importance of Nazareth to the Christian religion, archaeologists have spent considerable effort in attempting to establish the origin and size of this otherwise obscure little village. The village no doubt existed by the time the gospels were written, but what is historically unclear is whether it also existed during the reign of King Herod, and therefore the time of Jesus' birth. The late-first-century Jewish historian, Josephus, listed all the towns and villages known to him in Galilee, but omitted any mention of Nazareth.

Archaeologists have uncovered much of the early village. A recent archaeological dig has uncovered, in a house in the early ruins of Nazareth, coins and artefacts from the Roman era - too late to indicate whether Nazareth existed during the Herodian era.

What is known of early Nazareth is that it would have been no more than a village, almost certainly too small to have its own synagogue, but whether it goes all the way back to Herodian time and if so how many people lived there, are so far unknown.

How many times did Jesus visit Galilee?

Jesus is considered a resident of Galilee. Jesus grew up and was raised in Nazareth with his parents, which is part of the Galilee area. Later Jesus concentrated his 3-year ministry in and around Capernaum (Peter's home town), which is in the Northern part of Galilee.Matthew 21:11, the crowds identified Jesus as "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee".Likewise, in Matthew 26:69 the servant girl said to Peter "You also were with Jesus of Galilee".

How many times is Jesus amazed in the bible?

It was not so much Jesus as his disciples and all the people that were amazed. There is only one reference that I can find at Jesus being amazed: And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy; (Mark 14.33) Although Jesus did marvel, which is akin to being amazed, first at the unbelief of the people of Nazareth, (Mark 6.6), and then at some people of great faith: When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel (Matthew 8.10)

Where did Jesus live most of his life?

The Gospels say in Nazareth, about 16 miles west of the Sea of Galilee. The modern town of Nazareth may or may not have been the site of the one mentioned in the Gospels as the location was not formally defined in Christian Tradition until the fourth century (301 AD to 400 AD) under Emperor Constantine and is not mentioned in any existing Jewish texts written before the third century (201 AD to 300 AD).

How are gospels connected to the life of Jesus of Nazareth?

Mary and Joseph lived in Nazareth. The angel came to Mary in Nazareth. After Jesus was born in Bethlehem and went to Egypt for a short stay, the family returned to Nazareth. Joseph was a carpenter in Nazareth and taught Jesus to be a carpenter which trade he plied in Nazareth. During Jesus' ministry He went to Nazareth and preached in the Synagogue, but the people knowing Jesus most of His life could not believe He was the chosen Messiah.

Why do some people believe that Jesus was not crucified?

A:It is very possible that Jesus of Nazareth was crucified, after all the Romans crucified many thousands in first-century Palestine. Crucifixion was not uncommon and would not, by itself, make Jesus special. Jesus of Nazareth was not crucified if he did not exist, and there are many hypotheses as to the background of the Jesus story, including that the story was based around the second-century-BCE Teacher of Righteousness mentioned in the Dead Sea Scrolls or that the pre-gospel Jesus was purely spiritual, crucified in heaven (as various Near Eastern gods were).
