One of the most compelling things about The Bible is that it presents even its "heroes" in very real terms, and doesn't shy away from examining their flaws.

Overall, Aaron was surely what we would think of as a "good person;" after all, God appointed him the first High Priest of Israel (Exodus 28:1). But even "good people" are very capable of doing "bad things," and Aaron made some tremendous mistakes, like the debacle of the golden calf in Exodus 32.
