Psalm 46 is traditionally assigned to the time of King David, making it a difficult psalm to understand. In fact, scholars say that the psalms were really written during and after the Babylonian Exile, many centuries later.
Verse 6 tells how the enemy, Babylon, could move kingdoms and seemed capable of making the earth melt - an image of awesome power for the powerless Jews.
But the Persians had defeated the Babylonians and showed favour to the Jews. The psalm end with the promise from God that there never would be any more wars.
