Nowadays it is: (CCLIV) which means 1,000*254 = 254,000

But the Romans would have chose (CCLIIII) which means the same calculation.

The ancient Romans would never ever write out the equivalent of 4 as IV because it was considered to be an insult to their main god Jupiter whose Latin name begins with IV and so they thought it was reducing their god to a number and not a name.
