There are many verses in The Bible where it says Jesus is equal with God. One is in John 14:6 where Jesus says, " I am the way, and the truth, and the life, No man comes to the Father except by me." ; John 10 : 30-31 : I and my Father are one..... ; John 10 : 38-39 : The Father is in me, and I in him. ; John 14 : 9 : He that hath seen me hath seen the Father.

58Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

This is a direct claim to be the one eternal God of the Old Testament whom the Jews worshipped, as seen from the name 'I Am,' from Exodus 14.

14And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

13Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

1God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high: 4Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. 5For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? 6And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. 7And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. 8But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. 9Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. 10And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:

In this last passage from Jesus is identified as being superior to the angels but specifically also as God Himself. Here, and in Colossians He is also identified as the creator and sustainer of the world - clearly a function of deity.

Jesus is equal in his divinity, and inferior (unequal) in his humanity. Jesus is both fully man, and fully God. Equal: "For this cause therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God." (John 5:18, NASB). Inferior: "The Father is great than I." (John 14:28, NASB). There are numerous passages of various kinds which relate to this.

For example in Mark 2:1-12, where Jesus healed the crippled man, He also forgave the man's sins. Since the Jewish teachers rightly recognized all sin as being against God, they also rightly recognized this as a claim to deity.

In a number of other places Jesus has the characteristics of deity such as in the book of Revelation where He is referred to as 'the alpha and the omega', a reference to His eternal nature. This obviously excludes the possibility of Him being created like the angels were, since they are not eternal and are never referred to as 'alpha and omega', nor obviously are humans.

17And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: 18I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. In the context, the Him referred to is clearly Jesus Christ, who is referred to in exactly the same terms as the eternal Father.

Did Jesus claim equality with God?

Yes, in one sense. He said to have seen him was to have seen the father. You could also say he did not claim equality with God as that would be to say he was equal to God but distinct from him. He is God. You are not equal to yourself and you would never say you were equal to yourself. Only another person could claim to be equal to you.AnswerYes, Jesus claimed equality with God because He was God incarnate [that is, 100% God and also 100% Man - and don't ask me to explain how!]
