One should be careful to distinguish from spiritual Sacrifices- like the Supreme one of Christ at Calvary, and mere suicides based on guilt tripping. Judas Iscariot, the arch-traitor and in some circles Apostle #l3 took his own life by hanging shortly after the Last supper. It has been hinted his recompense- 30 pieces of silver- if Mercury Dimes ( unknown at the time but logical) would equal $3.00 which implies that Judas may have been Gay. I have heard this cross-cultural ( no pun intended) argument made. There are a number of suicides in the Old Testament. Generally the practice is condemned as a Sin against the Holy Ghost- that is the Spirit- the Lord and Giver of Life! This is the prevailing Catholic attitude.
