Christianity claims to be a fulfilment of the Old Testament of the Bible. Unless an effort is made to understand the Bible as one story, with the New Testament a fulfilment of the Old Testament, the synergy begins to disappear. Without this synergy, you may begin to see the story of Jesus as largely unrelated to the Old Testament and this could lead to seeing him as a great moral teacher, but no more than this.

Does the bible come in street slang edition?

there are several different editions of the bible. some are more accurate than others, but the version you read depends on whether you are studying or just getting closer to god. the KING JAMES VERSION is the first english version of the bible, but that can be difficult to understand because we dont speak in that dialect any more. if you want to stay close to the king james but understand what you are reading you can try the NEW KING JAMES VERSION. the NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION is also easy to understand and is one of the more popular versions of the bible. other versions that i recommend to people are the AMPLIPHIED BIBLE which gives more detail and explanation, and THE MESSAGE bible which is much more conversational and very easy to understand.

What is one reason a Catholic may find the Bible hard to understand?

One reason that a Catholic might find the Bible hard to understand is that they are not reading it with the mind of the Church. Another reason might be that they don't understand that it is literal and NOT literalistic. In other words, take the Creation story in the beginning of Genesis (the first creation story). It is literally true: God created EVERYTHING out of nothing. A literalistic interpretation would be that He created it in six twenty-four hour days because it references "days". But the Bible is NOT literalistic, and must be interpreted literally in the genera that it is using: myth, parable, allegory, etc.
