Affecting factor of tool life in machinability?

The life of tool is affected by many factors such as: cutting speed, depth of cut, chip thickness, tool geometry, material or the cutting fluid and rigidity of machine. Physical and chemical properties of work material influence tool life by affecting form stability and rate of wear of tools. The nose radius tends to affect tool life.1. Cutting speed: Cutting speed has the greatest influence on tool life. As the cutting speed increases the temperature also rises. The heat is more concentrated on the tool than on the work and the hardness of the tool metrix changes so the relative increase in the hardness of the work accelerates the abrasive action. The criterion of the wear is dependent on the cutting speed because the predominant wear may be wear for flank or crater if cutting speed is increased.2. Feed and depth of cut: The tool life is influenced by the feed rate also. With a fine feed the area of chip passing over the tool face is greater than that of coarse feed for a given volume of swarf removal, but to offset this chip will be greater hence the resultant pressure will nullify the advantage.3. Tool Geometry: The tool life is also affected by tool geometry. A tool with large rake angle becomes weak as a large rake reduces the tool cross-section and the amount of metal to absorb the heat.4. Tool material: Physical and chemical properties of work material influence tool life by affecting form stability and rate of wear of tool.5. Cutting fluid: It reduces the coefficient of friction at the chip tool interface and increases tool life.

What is the difference between cutting speed and feed?

Cutting Speed :- Rate at which point on work circumference travels past cutting tool.It always express in feet/min.and if it is too high cutting tool breaks down rapidly and if too slow low production rate occurs. Feed :- The distance that cutting tool advances along the length of work piece for every revolution of the spindle.

What is the difference between cutting speed feed rate depth of cut?

Feed of a cutting tool in the lathe is the distance of the tool advances for each revolution of the work. The depth of cut is the perpendicular distance measured from the machined surface to the uncut surface of the work piece.

What is the function of a tool post of a lathe machine?

The tool post allows the user to control a cutting tool (such as a chisel) more accurately - to produce better results. The tool post holds the lathe tools that will be required for each cutting operation required in that part of teh production process. Each post can hold up to four differing tolls - example. Facing tool, knurling tool, long reach internal cutter and then a parting tool. The tool post rides on the saddle on a horizontal plane and the in a cross feed. Most tool feeds can be set to automatic where cutting speed is set and the movement of the post on the saddle automated

Average cutting speed of stainless steel in lathe machine?

Obviously it would depend on the stainless grade because stainless is an alloy, so the speed rate would differ slightly depending on your grade. The most important factor would be the type of cutter you use, if you are using Carbide cutting tools, with sufficient coolant you can run it at about 90-110 m/p/m (90 to 100 meters per minute) If you using high speed steel cutters run it no more than about 30m/p/m. My best advice to you is to ask for the manufactures recommendations they will give you a limit to work in, always start between lowest and middle of manufactures speed recomendations and then work your way up in speed if necessary. If your speed is correct you get a better finish and longer toolife. Remember that if you run tools at higher speeds you decrease their life, the time taken to cut the material is determined by the feed-rate and not the speed, even on a lathe which has feed set to federate per revolution will only differ slightly. Hope this helps…

What is cnc spindle?

the spindle of a CNC machine rotates the cutting tool.

What is the definition of a planing tool in basic machine tools?

Lathe for making the cross piece is rounded. The tool is a piece of stationary spins. Milling machines for making flat pieces. The tool rotates the piece is stationary. +++ "Planing" in machine-tool terms describes the action of a Planing-machine, which moves the workpiece held on a horizontal table against a cutting-tool held on a frame adjustable for height (cutting depth) and cross-feed. Not often used now, having largely been supplanted by the milling-machine, and for very large work the plano-mill. ' The planning-tool itself resembles a chisel ground to particular angles.

What is profiling on lathe machine?

Vertical milling machine is for cutting large pieces. The lathe cutting tool motion is perpendicular to the ground. They are said to Karosl lathe.
