No, in fact it will cost you more money. The freezer temperature sensor is in free air. The freezer cooling units are in the wall and partitions of the freezer. With these cooling units covered with ice it takes longer to transfer the cold to the air where the sensor is located to shut the unit off when the temperature is reached. In freezer units located in refrigerators there is a feature called self defrosting. There is a heating element that automatically melts the ice off of the cooling elements.
