Actually a more scientific answer shows that low heart rates do show increased chances of miscarriage. The normal heartrate of a 7 week embryo is 135. Heart rates of less that 100 show increased chances of miscarriage. Not all end in miscarriage, but several do. Is it possible to test positive when spotting?

Yes. Your hormones fluctuate quite a bit during and after a miscarriage. It can sometimes take up to a month before your levels go back to normal, so it is possible to have a positive result on a pregnancy test whether there is spotting or not.

There are two possible scenarios here. 1. You could still be pregnant but the monitor didn't pick up the heartbeat. 2. Miscarriage can take a while to actually happen. It can take one day or as many as 14 days to miscarry.

Does spotting last the whole pregnancy?

spotting is not supposed to occur during pregnancy. if you are spotting it may be a sign of miscarriage. However, many women have spotted and still have successful pregnancies. Best to get it checked out, have a pelvic exam and ultrasound to see what's going on in there.

Can you have miscarriage-like symptoms and still be pregnant?

What types of symptoms? Like bleeding? Or spotting? You can be pregnant and still have your period, but it won't be like a regular period. More like spotting and not for very long. I don't think they would even call it a period.

Could you have had a miscarriage if your period came three weeks ago and you have kept bleeding and spotting since then?

It is a possibility. I suggest you go to the doctor and get checked. If you HAVE had a miscarriage and you are still bleeding you may have a bit of the pregnancy still inside which could cause an infection or heavier bleeding. If you have NOT had a miscarriage there is some other problem which needs checking.
