So long as it stops bleeding, you can just treat it the same as any sore:

  • take some acetaminophen for pain (not aspirin or ibuprofen or naproxen because those all cause more bleeding)
  • put ice on it for about 10 minutes at a time (you can also suck on a Popsicle or ice cube)
  • keep the area clean until it heals - rinsing your mouth with warm salt water usually helps it feel better in between ice treatments
If it does not stop bleeding, you will need to see a doctor for stitches.
