It depends what kind of herbal product you are talking about. For example, there are herbal products which are in the form of Hydroethanol tincture, Tablet, Cream, Ointment, Glycerol based product, inhalents, liniments, lotions, gargles, eye drops, enemas, jellies, pastes, pessaries, plasters, snuffs, powders, poultices, suppositories, solid plant extract, bath products, douches, ear drops, tablets, lozenges, capsules, syrups, mels (from the Irish word meala meaning honey. these are honey based products), spirits, syrups, linctuses, fluid extract, emulsions and elixers. Each one of these behaves differently.

When we`r talking about shelf life, we`r really talking about how long it takes before microorganisms break down the product. In products where the osmotic pressure has been changed by the additional of salt or sugar such as in syrups, glycerol products, honey products etc, this will prevent most microorganisms developing as they cannot grow in these extreme conditions. It would be like humans trying to survive drinking only salty water. These products will not be affected by temperature.

Dried products will not support microorganism growth as they need water for activity, these will therefore not be affected by temperature.

Products will only start to "go bad" if they have microorganisms in them from the start. If you can remove all micro life before sealing the product, they will never go off. Not until the packaging starts to biodegrade and allows the outside environment into the product. Not even temperature will affect this.

So no, temperature does not affect shelf life of herbal products all that much.

Dry storage is not refrigerated nor frozen. It is at ambient temperature (which hopefully does not get too hot nor is too humid) and is where shelf stable foods, packaging, plastic and paper products are kept.
