A midwife is a skilled birth professional who attends low-risk births either at home, in a birth center or a hospital. Some midwives gain their skills through apprenticeship and are usually referred to as Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). A neonate is a newborn baby birth through the first 30 days or through the first 30 days past when the baby should have been born if he or she was born prematurely.
