A level 1 massage typically refers to a basic or introductory form of Massage Therapy that focuses on relaxation and stress relief. It often involves gentle techniques, such as effleurage and light pressure, and is suitable for individuals new to massage or those seeking a calming experience. This level of massage may not address specific injuries or deeper muscle tension, making it more about overall well-being.
A level 2 massage typically refers to a massage technique that is more advanced and may involve deeper pressure and more specific targeting of muscle groups compared to a basic or level 1 massage. Level 2 massages often incorporate techniques such as deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, or myofascial release to address chronic tension, injuries, or specific areas of discomfort. These massages require a higher level of skill and training from the massage therapist to effectively address the client's needs.

Every massage therapy practice has their own set of expectations. For example, in our practice we tell our clients to undress to their level of comfort. I tell them that I have worked on individuals that are fully clothed and individuals who are the complete opposite. I believe that most massage therapists want you to feel comfortable and not be nervous. I have been to massage therapists who do want you to remove everything before laying on the massage table. If this is the case, I have always seen instructions in the intake paperwork explaining the benefits of massage therapy and why they would like you to remove all clothing. If you are unsure, don't hesitate to ask your massage therapist. They will be happy to answer your questions.
