Why wear safety gloves?

They wear gloves to keep the area sterile. This means free from germs. First they scrub up, all the way to the forearm. This ensures no germs will be there in the operation.

When they opertate they want to make sure nothing gets into the wound or whatever they might be working on. If it does, th person could get sick, get septic, or worse. That is why they wear gloves. Its basically the same with masks too.

You might also wear gloves as a fashion statement or as a requirement for participating in an activity; such as boxing gloves for boxing or wearing gloves to be a snooker referee. Wearing disposable safety gloves is important to prevent cross contamination of body substances which could potentially be infected. Medical and surgical gloves must always be waterproof and are usually made of nitrile or latex. These are discarded after dealing with the patient.

Before putting on a pair of gloves, ensure it is free of any tears and check it is the correct size. Gloves that are too small are likely to tear and gloves too big inhibit the ability to conduct delicate medical procedures.

When dealing with multiple trauma patients, change gloves between patients to protect Patient A from the potentially infected fluid of Patient B and vice versa.

In summary, ALWAYS wear waterproof, medical gloves when dealing with any medical, surgical or first aid situation even when blood is not immediately obvious.
