(d) the passing of sentences and the carrying out of executions without previous judgment pronounced by a regularly constituted court, affording all the judicial guarantees which are recognized as indispensable by civilized peoples.

In reality, you captured a moment in time when he was pandering, trying to reassure southern radicals so that they would not go to war over his election. To understand the context of those statements you need to read the Lincoln Douglas debates in their entirety, not just a few comments or qoutes pages. You also need to understand the era in which those comments were made. Lincoln's views on slavery and equality were considered radical for the time, and to get elected he had to moderate. I find your statement that he was not a leader for human rights incredibly unfair, and also completely inaccurate. The southerners of the day thought Lincoln was a great threat to the institution of slavery and felt strongly enough about it that they left the union before he could even be inaugurated, despite him making these comments.
