Archduke Franz Ferdinand was an absolutist monarchist who did not extend himself to the people. He saw no need to even visit Vienna, the heartland of the Austrian people. Though undoubtedly a decent and moral man based on activities such as attempting to grant greater autonomy to ethnic groups within the empire, he was not particularly well loved by the people.
In 1904 a Serbian student named Gavrilo Princip assassinated the Archduke Franz Ferdinand. This activated a chain reaction to Austria-Hungary. The Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary. This made the Austrians feel like striking back for what they did. Soon the Austrians declared war and a few days later the news got to spread all the way to the powers of Europe. Soon the Europians got angry and they wanted to declare war and join up with the Austrians. This was not the only problem that started the World War 1 these things that I am putting down are only just the begining. There are 4 reasons the war was started but you have to find out the answer yourself don't just try and use me for your homework........FOOL!
Gavrilo Princip was part of an underground resistance group that opposed Archduke Franz Ferdinand's rule, and the occupation of Serbia. He assassinated the Archduke as an act of patriotism and also because he did not like him.
Yes the Archduke was shot. He was killed by Gavrilo Princip (check the spelling). He was a Serbian nationalist that was order by Germany to kill the Archduke. He was kiled at the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo.
The murder of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand by a pro-Serbian terrorist sparked the First World War. After the murder of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand by a pro-Serbian terrorist on June 28, 1914, fears and friendships among the nations of Europe caused them to fall like dominoes to the hand of the war. The Austrian government, assuming that the Serbian government was at least passively responsible for the assassination, issued an incredible ultimatum on July 23. Austria demanded that Serbia submit to its rule until Serbia was purged of anti-Austrian sentiments. Surprisingly, Serbia replied that it was willing to accept most of Austria's demands. Austria was not satisfied, however, and declared war on Serbia on July 28.

Austria-Hungary, because Archduke Franz Ferdinand came from Germany, invaded, and attacked.

Archduke Franz Ferdinand's shot to the neck probably hit a more crucial body part, like the spine, than Bobby Kennedy's shot to the head. A person can still live after head trauma, however quality of life is more than likely reduced.
Oh because his cool like that

He was royalty, and just like the celebrities of our times, there were always photographers when Franz Ferdinand left his house, and sometimes when he was in it too!
Driving around like a tourist in Sarajevo.
They do have a song that somehow tackles the assassination, and its title is "All For You Sophia", which is a B-side to their hit single, Take Me Out. It does not completely retell the whole story, it in fact, employs reiteration. It, however, makes mention of the important people and places, like Sophia (the Archduke's wife is actually Sofie, but the band decided to lengthen the name so that it would sound better), Gavrilo Princip, their "chauffeur" Franz Urban, and Appel Quay. :)
Many different countries building alliances and military force that when the Archduke Franz Ferdinand happened and war was declared it was like a domino effect because of all the alliances.

Serbia was blamed for the assassination. While the government has stated that they were never involved with the killing, most believe that the Black Hand (the gang that trained to assassinate Archduke Ferdinand) were called upon by the government.
