The nature of war in general, and martial discipline in particular. Given the right conditions, all soldiers regardless of nationality, will commit any heinous act ordered. Soldiers by nature, are trained to follow orders. The more readily they do so, the better soldiers they are. Concience has a habit of conflicting with some orders, and thus is not welcome in war. When mixed with a leadership who has no qualms about killing anyone for any reason, the results are catastophic. Think of a soldier as a guard dog, who will attack whatever his master sics him upon. A bad master makes for a bad dog, and so it is with soldiers.
Krauts was what American soldiers called them

There is no record of any individual single-handedly capturing 100 German soldiers during World War 1. While there were many acts of bravery and heroism during the war, capturing such a large number of enemy soldiers by oneself would be highly unlikely and improbable.
