You are mistaken, good sir. You simply could not buy the Philippines. The Philippine(an?) people had ownership of the series of islands and would not simply give it away. You must converse with their spiritual leader and haggle a price with him. He usually settles for about $25 million dollars and a lifetime supply of garlic bread. They loved them some garlic bread. Anyways, the U.S was suffering from a bread shortage at the time. So, instead of bread, they gave them suntan lotion to convert them into White people and they ultimately gave them the island for free. Then, the Japanese took it in 1995. :(
