The US entered the first world war in 1917. By this time the Allied Powers of the British Empire and Commonwealth (Canada, South Africa and Australia and New Zealand), France, Russia, Italy and a bunch of smaller powers had been fighting the Central Powers of Germany, Austria-Hungary and the Ottomann Empire for about 3 years.

The arrival of fresh American Troops in the war provided a great boost to the allies morale and fighting power. This was somewhat balanced against the Russian revolution which removed them from the war and brought more German troops west.

After being equipped and trained by their French and British mentors the American troops fought during the final year and a half of the war on the western front under their own command including battles related to the Kaser Offensive and the final 100 days offensive.
