Turkey's predecessor was the Ottoman Empire. In World War 1, the Ottoman Empire joined the Central Powers by forging an alliance with Germany and Austria-Hungary. The Treaty of Versailles disassembled the Ottoman Empire and soon afterwards the Republic of Turkey was formed.
