On April 16,1862, to effectively cope with the enormous superiority in numbers the northern population could put at disposal of the Union armies, the Confederate Congress passed the first Law on Conscription ever voted in America. Several amendments were approved on September 27, 1862, followed by the presidential proclamation. Based upon these acts, all free males aged from 18 and 45 years were mobilized for the military service in the Confederate Army.
In 1882, Congress passed a law which stopped immigration from the country of China. This was called the Immigration Act of 1882.

Washington served as a Major and a Lt. Col. In the British, Virginia Colonial Militia. He was rejected by the British Regular Army. He was elected to the House of Burgesses in 1758, and spoke out against British repression, and excessive taxation of the Colonies. In 1775 he appeared before the Continental Congress in his militia uniform, offering his service. At this time the Continental Congress authorized the formation of the Continental Army and appointed Washington Commander and Chief, so during the Revolutionary War Washington commanded all of the Colonial Militias. Also, as the first U.S. President, Washington signed into law, the "Militia Act of 1792"
