What happened if men were captured by the enemy in world war 2?

They were held as prisoners of war. What that entailed depended upon the "enemy" who caught them. In Britain we often made prisoners of war work, but on the whole we treated them fairly well. In Japan many prisoners were treated extremely badly and were frequently tortured.

How many troops were taken as pow?

It largely depended on who was fighting against who and in which war. For example the Japanese in WW2 treated their POWs abominably, but few indeed became prisoners themselves. The Russians too treated their prisoners terribly. Many Russian prisoners themselves were forced to fight for the Germans.

What did Nazis do with captured enemy?

It generally depended on who was involved. Western European prisoners were treated much better than Eastern European prisoners. Eastern Europeans were most often killed or died of starvation. They were often made into slave laborers. Of the Western European prisoners, the British & Americans were treated better than the French, Belgian, Dutch or Italian (after Italy surrendered to the Allies) prisoners. Normally British & Americans were not killed or treated as slave laborers. The French, Belgian, Dutch & Italians were often sent to slave labor camps, and starved. Of the Germans that held prisoners, the SS were the worse offenders against prisoners, and the Luftwaffe (Air Force) treated their prisoners the best. Also civilian prisoners were treated worse than military prisoners.

How were POWs treated in World War 2?

From all I have read, which is extensive, it depends who you are and who you were fighting. US prisoners were relatively well treated as were Germans taken by the US. Exceptions were the German massacre of US prisoners in Malmady, battle of the bulge in 1944-45. The massacre of the Polish officers @ The Katyn Forest in 1940 by the Soviets, long blamed on the Nazis. Prisoners taken by Nazis on the Russian front were treated horribly if they were taken as were German prisoners captured by the Russians. About 5,000 Germans came back to Germany at war's end out of 500,000 taken Japanese were brutal in their treatment of all allied prisoners. Battaan's death march etc. War's do not bring out the best in men!

How were American soldiers treated when captured?

US POWs in Europe were treated with respect and accorded the treatment under the Geneva Convention(s). In the beginning of WW2, US POWs in the Pacific were treated as soldiers that had broken the code of honorable fighting men, and had chosen surrender over fighting to the death. Coupled with the humidity and starving conditions of vast travelling areas of obtaining resupply of food, medical supplies, equipment, etc. living conditions/treatment of US/Allied POWs was extremely harsh; especially when compared to conditions experienced by ETO (European Theater of Operations) POWs.

How were Australian prisoners treated compared to the prisoners generally treated in Japanese POW camps?

Australian POWs were treated as appallingly as other whites in Japanese camps. They were used as slave labour.

How do the prisoners in the wagon act like animals?

The prisoners in the wagon are kept in close quarters, are deprived of personal space and basic necessities, and are treated with aggression and disregard by their captors. This treatment can lead to the prisoners exhibiting animalistic behaviors such as fighting for resources, acting out of fear or survival instincts, and losing a sense of humanity through dehumanization.
