The official name was the Confederate States of America. You'll sometimes see them referred to as the Confederates, the Confederacy, or more generically "the South".

Only parts of communism have been defeated. Communist nations still exist today. Communism is simply socialism: Group rights verses individual rights. Group safety verses individual safety. Group property verses individual property. The government will take care of you verses taking care of yourself; The government knowing your business verses the government staying out of your business (Privacy Laws). The US was founded upon capitalism: Profits. Profits enabled individuals to reach for a goal. Commonly referred to as "the American Dream." Owning your own home for example, earning profits from it's sale. The Soviet Union collapsed after going bankrupt under the communist system of government.
Based on the experiences of the US in World War One, a large number of Americans did not want to engage itself in World War Two. It might be called a "peace movement" or a case of "isolationism", either way, the US did not want to become involved in World War Two. There was of course, a group of people who saw an immense danger posed by Nazi Germany. However, the Atlantic Ocean seemed at the time of 1939 an adequate barrier from war torn Europe. Also, the invasion of the Soviet Union by Hitler created a British, Exiled French and Soviet alliance that many Americans wanted to avoid. The prospect of being allied with Stalin was not held in high esteem.

The Soviet Union was the actual country itself. The Soviet Bloc was a group of supposedly independent countries which were really controlled by the Soviet Union.

The Soviet Union was the nation called the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (the USSR) that had consisted of about 15 separate nation states such as Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Belorussia, Ukraine and others. It was a single nation. The Soviet bloc was a group of nations who allied themselves with the Soviet Union because their political nature was similar to that of the Soviet Union. Such nations were Bulgaria, East Germany, Czechoslovakia and others. It was not a single nation but a group of individual nations.
Lenin changed the nations names to Union Of Soviet Socialist Replubics or the Soviet Union. He also organized the Communist Party into a strong, tightly run group.
The Communist Party held control of the Soviet Union under Lenin.
A group involved in a riot is often referred to as a mob or a rioting crowd.
The Politburo
There is no standard collective noun for a group of unions. The noun 'union' can function as a collective noun for a group of people or things, for example, the International Union of Operating Engineers or the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR).
