Yes. All sides used snipers extensively during the war. After artillery and machine-gun fire, Snipers were the 3rd greatest source of casualties among Officers, messengers, support troops and stretcher-bearers. Sniping evolved an entire sub-culture in the trenches, with scorekeeping, stories of famous shooters and an intense rivalry between the sides. Often, a missed shot would result in catcalls and taunts from the enemy trenches.

I don't think any US troops received any special training as snipers. The typical infantry company were issued the M-1 Garand semi-automatic rifles but they also continued to use the older bolt-action rifle. Some were issued with scopes. When the Marines deployed to the islands in the Pacific, they encountered Japanese snipers. To counter this threat, they began to use some Marines as snipers. There was no speciality rating for sniper nor any badge or insignia to denote a sniper.

Much the same as they still do. Snipers in the earlier days of firearms combat were usually natural talents. Training for snipers did not begin until near the end of WW2.
During ww1 snipers usually concealed themselves and took potshots at anyone whose head came above the cover of their trench/foxhole.
