Tanks, Poison Gas, and Barbed wire. These lead to terrible torturous deaths to many; most of which were trapped in "dead man's land" and were forced to die slowly and painfully. (Side note: mustard gas eventually evolved into a form of modern chemo therapy and is now used to cure some types of cancer.)
