The clothing in World War 2 for children were different looking than they are now but then again they look the same. Blue jeans, tee shirts and sneakers (tennis shoes, athletic shoes), overalls and dresses were the order of the day in both England and the United States, New Zealand and Australia. Their warm coats and jackets however were dressier and did not look like the colorful sporty jackets of today. Girls loved to wear shoes called Mary Janes. The boys love Keds sneakers. The high school girls and boys wore dresses and slacks with button down shirts and leather shoes to school. They were really style conscious with their hair styles and cars if they could get them. Watch some of the old black and white movies if you want to see their styles. Mrs. Miniver and another movie with Claudette Colbert are great examples of what the kids of that day wore.
