Both the British and French suffered tremendous losses in men and material by the end of 1915. Both countries had overseas colonies and put pressure on them to begin contributing to the war effort. India, Australia and New Zealand, contibuted for the British and Algeria and Morocco for the French. The Germans had several colonies in the southern region of Africa, but the British were able to blockade and prevent these colonies from contributing to the German war effort. In 1917, the French army had been bled white and it was common to see great numbers of non-French serving. Many of these non-native French and Englishmen, hoped that by serving the Allied cause, that they might get their independence and freedom. That wouldn't happen unfortunately, until after World War 2.

European domination of the world began to weaken as nationalism in colonies increased
After the two world wars, Europeans' ideas about their colonies underwent significant transformation as the devastating impacts of the conflicts exposed the unsustainability of imperialism. The wars fostered a growing sense of nationalism among colonized peoples, leading to increased demands for independence and self-determination. Additionally, the rise of anti-colonial movements and the influence of global organizations like the United Nations emphasized the moral and political imperatives for decolonization. As a result, many European powers began to reassess their colonial policies and gradually transitioned towards granting independence to their colonies.

it lead to increased global trading because when the colonies established there was another place to trade with, not only for england but also for other places like africa and the british west inides. And it was over the world hints the word "global". And mercantilism because it said the colonies HAD to send for example wood to england then england would make a chair and send it back anf th colonies would buy it. That's trading instead of the colonies just making the chair, then there wouldn't be as much trading. -KKS
World War I did not directly lead to the freedom of colonies, but it set in motion processes that contributed to decolonization. The war weakened European powers economically and politically, prompting many colonies to push for independence. Increased nationalism and the principles of self-determination promoted by figures like U.S. President Woodrow Wilson inspired independence movements. However, significant decolonization primarily occurred after World War II.
