According to the 1921 census of Scotland the total WW1 deaths = 74,000.

In the period now under consideration, 1911 to 1921, an additional adjustment of 74,000 was made in respect of war deaths among Scottish soldiers and sailors outwith Scotland.

England and Scotland have been joined as the United Kingdom since 1707. Scotland took part in the war as a part of the UK, providing many excellent soldiers to the British Army. The traditional highland regiments are among the best in that service, in every war. The great fleet anchorage of the Royal Navy is at Scapa Flow, in the Orkney Islands off the north of Scotland. Numerous US units were also based and trained in Scotland in the build-up for D-Day. Many US units first came ashore in Europe in Scottish ports.
