cossacks were these ppl from Russia that worked for the Czar and they would burn down Jewish houses and attack Jews in Russia. If you wanna learn more, read "land of hope" its a gud book. Like the Christians during the Crusades who also burn down Jewish houses and attacked Jews in all of Europe, yet that is not the entire story of the christians. This is not the entire history of the Cossacks. Read : The Cossacks by Maurice Hindus... and know the whole story of the Cossacks.

What military tactics did Russia use during World War 1?

The invasion of Russia by Napoleon was a huge undertaking. And it was very successful: Up to a point. Smolensk was taken and the road to Moscow was open as far as Borodino where Kutusaivov made a stand behind defensive redoubts. Marshal Kutaisov was very old, he had been defeated at Austerlitz, Prince Bagration had been at Austerlitz too, and had handled the Russian/Austrian right flank with distinction on the Santon against Marshal Lannes. Borodino was a huge battle, a bloodbath. There were many casualties and the Russians quit the field. At which point you might think that the French had won... no, there were no victors at Borodino, but the road to Moscow was now assured. And when the French arrived the city was, to all intents, deserted. Everyone who was anyone had left for St Petersburg. And then it started to snow. The retreat from Moscow was a disaster. Nothing less, a debacle of monumental proportions. The French were harried by Cossacks & the Russian cavalry & ambush & rivers to cross such as the Nieman & the Berezina. Many many died, there was great hardship & courage, notably from Marshal Ney. Simply the Russians had rolled with the punches, so to speak, & absorbed the attack & the counter attack, the Russians being more able to live in the climate, was devastating. Napoleon handed the Army to Murat & left for France, to raise fresh troops, to return for the German campaign of 1813, which would also end in disaster at Leipzig (The Battle of the Nations)
