Soldiers wore Green clothing during the year. Mostley jackets and durable pants. They always had their helmets on. It depened on what that soldier did. Parachuters wore tons of gear on them while falling and stripped half of it when they hit ground.
Soldiers wore many different uniforms... depending on the country and or branch/profession the uniforms varied. An example would be the United States Rangers/Marines. Their uniforms were basically the same... Boots, socks, lightweight pants/shirt/jacket etc. Rifle holster that would often be worn around the shoulder/waist. Pistol holster on the hip (if the soldier had a pistol). Ammunition pockets which would often be attached to vests that held ammo magazines. Different types of grenades would also be clipped onto this vest for easy access. A small duffel bag would would be worn like a backpack on the back with straps on the shoulders. This would hold extra ammo, concealed pistols, food rations, gun attachments, maps/binoculars, and knives. This backpack was often said to be the most important thing that a soldier would wear since so it had so many uses. Many soldiers often kept a personal item in the bag too. The belt of a soldier would be worn around the waste and would hold knives for Close combat situations, ammo cartridges/magazines/clips, and holding grenades. The last thing that a soldier would wear is the steel helmet that was strapped around the chin or have no strap at all. It would protect the soldier from falling debris, shrapnel, and bullets. The soldier would rarely take off the helmet during battle unless it was thrown off the soldier's head in battle. It was a common, strict order for a soldier to never take off his helmet even when not in battle in case for surprise attacks/explosions etc.
