Omaha Beach was the Allied codename for one of the principal landing points during the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944. The beach is about 3.5 miles (5.6 km) long, from Sainte-Honorine-des-Pertes to Vierville-sur-Mer. The untested 29th Infantry Division, joined by 8 companies of Rangers redirected from Pointe du Hoc, were to land on the west side of the beach.
