What is Gleichshaltung?

Ussually it refers to Adolf Hitler's complete and total rise to power in Nazi Germany by eliminating things anti Nazi like Labor Unions, Political Parties ect. Or you could say he achieved it by bettering the economy through the DAF. He also separated the country into Gau's(like states) so that he could assign a Nazi political leader to each section and be able to control everything.

How did Hitler impact World War 2?

Prev answer: his impact on the war was very hard expesualy for the Jews and homesexuals colored and ect. because he killed most of the Jews homosexuals and ect. because he thought that they were the reason that many gearmans werent making enough money because Jews owned most of the shops My answer: Adolf Hitler mainy affected these three aspects of Germany, economic, social and political. Firstly, politically speaking, he destroyed democracy in Germany. The Reichstag Fire in 27 February 1933 acted as a turning point for Hitler to gain the most advantage of destroying democracy. The Nazis blamed the communists for setting fire to the parliament house and uses this as an excuse that communists only wanted to spark a violent revolution and only wanted to cause trouble. Furthermore, Adolf Hitler managed to win two thirds of the Reichstag majority, this enabled Hitler to further strengthen his control with the Enabling Act. The enabling act gives him unlimited dictatorial powers that does not need to be overseen by the constitution, Reichstag and the president. This power of dictatorship given to Hitler will last for four years. By doing so, Hitler made full use of his powers with three given examples. April 1933, New laws were passed to replace all members of other political parties with the Nazis. May 1933, All trade unions were banned and reorganised into the German Labour Front or DAF groups. This also ensured that Hitler was able to keep the support of the workers and at the same time, remove his political enemies. July 1933, all other political parties in Germany was banned., instead, Germany became a country ruled by one political party. In addition, threats to Hitler from WITHIN the party was removed. Adolf Hitler became suspicious of his old friend, Ernst Rohm's 4-million strong army. Ernst Rohm was the appointed leader of the SA (Storm Troopers) and he wanted large films to be nationalised. These orders worried the Generals in the Army and the industrialists. Hitler became growingly wary of what could be a potentially serious rival that could oppose him. Thus, Hitler used Ernst's actions as an excuse to arrest the leaders of the SA. He also had Ernst Rohm and many other political leaders executed even though they had no connection with the SA. Hitler cleverly planned the mass execution of up to 200 people, which was called, "Night of Long Knives". Secondly, in the social aspects of Germany, German people had little freedom. Emergency laws were used to arrest anyone suspected of being against the government. The suspects need not be brought to the court of law, even if they did, the courts are being monitored by Nazis. Hence, it became extremely unfair and unjust. Hitler spread fear among the people by assigning the SS and the Gestapo to arrest anyone opposing the Nazi Party or Hitler. Informers also struck fear in the daily lives of the German citizens. Quarter Wardens were assigned to gather information and check on anyone suspected of having independent thinking and showing signs like not waving the Nazi flag on important occasions. Also, between 1933 to 1939, over 200 000 Germans who were anti government were sent to concentration camps. These Germans suffered a lot during their stay in these camps. In addition, only pro Nazi cultural activities were allowed. Events such as exhibitions, musical performances, films were targeted at brainwashing the minds of the Germans to think like the Nazis. Other developments of cultural activities were not allowed. Propaganda was widely used as a form of gaining the people's support for Hitler. An example is the form of cheap radios. Radio loudspeakers were installed in public areas. This allowed everyone to listen to Hitler, when he's giving a speech. The Nazis controlled all forms of media and there was very strict removal of parts of books, magazines, works of art, films, music and radio broadcast. Any form of media coverage, newspapers, publications etc, that were not approved by the Ministry of Propaganda would be removed. The Nazis also organised parades and rallies that greatly appealed to the German citizens as these events gave an impression of power, strength and unity. Nazis also aimed at brainwashing the minds of youths into growing up to think positively of the Nazis. Nazi Youth organisations were set up for children of different sexes and age. Boy mainly has to go through physical training which involves a lot of military work. While girls are taught on how to take care of babies and give birth to pure Aryan German children. Education system was controlled by the Nazis. The main objective of education was to teach Nazi ideas and to instill loyalty to Nazism in young Germans. Women were given limited responsibilities. Many women with high ranking positions in jobs were forced to quit or were sacked. They were encouraged to only be concerned about producing healthy, racially pure German babies. Jews were treated cruelly. On 9-10 November 1938 (Crystal Night of Broken Glass), more than 90 Jews were killed, and around 30, 000 were arrested and placed in concentration camps. After that night, the Jews were forced to pay one billion marks for the destruction they caused. The Nazis also systematically exterminated more than 6 millions Jews in Europe. Christian churches were controlled by the Nazis. This was to reduce influence the church had over the people. This was achieved by closing down Catholic youth groups and church schools. Lastly, the economical impact Hitler had on Germany. Working conditions partly improved, workers had extra wages and their lives were also improved with the introduction of the DAF which gave them cheap holidays, cruises and sporting activities. Hitler created new job opportunities by implementing vast, new government projects which required the assistance of many workers. Statistically, the number of unemployment fell from 6 million to 2.5 million, when Hitler came into power. Big businesses benefited, however Germany did not become self sufficient, as indicated in the Nazi's Four Year Economic plan to achieve autarky for Germany. However, Germany was spending more money abroad than earning money for itself. Thus, the German economy did not improve.
