It"a man"s name, and is German in the spelling you give, like ERICH von Daniken, who is Swiss, despite his Germanic-sounding name. Eric is the Scandinavian version Eric the Red, Viking explorer. There is also the surname Ericcsson meaning the son of Eric. Erica is the female version, a neat name for a Valkyrie Knight type. A Friend of mine who claimed his father was a former SS man, had two beautiful sisters ( the son) named Erica and a variant of Elisabeth, note the continental spelling. This guy was a real Four star Wacko. He was a virulent anti-semite and knife collector who used his weapons for real.. Family had the totally benign line of work of a Candy Store.
