WW2 has 2 official starting points. the first is the German invasion of Poland on September 1st, 1939. With the actual event being German troops literally walking and driving into Poland with the intent to defeat all resistance and occupying the territory.
The other point is the surprise attack by Japan on the USA on December 7th, 1941. With the actual event of Japanese planes entering American airspace and bombing Pearl Harbor with the intent to cripple the US navy.
