it depends on who breaks it. remember, the geneva convention is like any other treaty. its rules only control those who signed it and agreed to it. america, Russia, Europe, and most asian countrys have signed it. if a single person involved with the army of a country who signed it, that person will simply be court martialed. if a country brakes it, by using banned weapons like chemical, biological, or nuclear, than that would cause all the other countries who signed it to declare war on that country, and the leader of that country, would be considered a war criminal, and charged with treason, crimes against humanity, genocide, war crimes, etc. and would be captured (or killed) and tried at the icc (interpol) if a country like america violated it, it would simply mean all of u.n. and others would be after the u.s.
